As an ambassador, she will raise awareness on HIV prevention, treatment, care and support, with an emphasis on women and children. Zinta is even planning to involve her Indian Premiere League cricket team, Kings XI, in the awareness programme.

“The team members of Kings XI, they will be involved in a public service film to talk about HIV-AIDS. We are also in our first game with Delhi Daredevils, which is on March 13, going to have a toss done by a person living with HIV,” Zinta said.

“We will be doing a lot of on-ground…going and creating awareness, meeting people living with HIV. I think this is the first step and there is lots more to come,” she added.

She also said that awareness is also required in villages besides in the cities.

“I think although there are so many awareness programmes being done amongst the people but something is still lacking. People need to put more efforts in the awareness programmes,” Zinta said.

“Till now awareness programmes were conducted only in the cities but now we shall have to conduct it in the villages and rural areas of the country as well,” she added.

UNAIDS is a joint venture of the United Nations, bringing together the efforts and resources of ten UN organizations to help the world prevent new HIV infections, disseminate care for people living with HIV, and mitigate the impact of the epidemic.

The 2006 estimates of the National Aids Control Organization (NACO) suggest that about 2.4 million Indians are currently living with HIV.

Says Rana, “The political message of the film is definitely not restricted to Andhra Pradesh. I’d like to remake the film into Tamil and then maybe Hindi. After I do Rohan Sippy’s film in Hindi, I’d like to do Leader in Hindi.”

Explains Rana, “We’ve tried to show the difference between a politician and a leader. We need responsible leaders. I play an honest leader, a Chief Minister. We’ve heard so many CMs being sworn in. We didn’t know what their oath means. From the time we were children we read about Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Mahatma Gandhi. Today my 5-year old nephew is studying about the same national leaders. Where are the political heroes of and for the new generation?” Says Rana Daggubati, “My role is actually an amalgamation of a whole lot of younger politicians from Rahul Gandhi to Barak Obama. For months my laptop would be open showing profiles of international politicians. Locally my reference points were Rahul Gandhi, Milind Deora and Sachin Pilot. Today’s youth - and I mean people from the age of 19 to 25 - is fully knowledge of present-day politics. They’re becoming more and more politically savvy. It’s a beautiful direction in which we’re heading. I thought the youngsters my age would enjoy the love story. But they connect more with the politics in Leader.”

Apparently, a song ‘Maa Telugu Talli‘ in Leader had to be changed because of the current political disturbances in Andhra Pradesh.

Rana plays it safe by saying, “There were some rumours about removing the song. We did alter it during the shooting because we understand the sensitivity of the issue.”

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, an Indian matrimonial website held a poll asking the voters to pick their favourite bahu (daughter-in-law) from Bollywood. Among the names contending for the title were Aishwarya Rai, Kajol, Gauri Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Twinkle Khanna, Kiran Rao and Malaika Arora.

But it’s Kajol who emerged the favourite bahu after getting 43.08 percent votes in the poll in which 250,000 women participated. Surprisingly, Kajol scored over Ash, who many thought would top the poll.

Gourav Rakshit, business head of shaadi.com is quoted as saying: “The results show that today the women are looking to be more independent and are willing to adopt stronger roles in their life. They believe in themselves and aspire to emulate top achievers in their field.”

Kajol has been married to Ajay Devgan for 11 years now. She put her acting career aside to raise her daughter Nysa, who’s quite grown up now. However, Kajol still remains very selective about the films she does because her daughter and her family continues to be her priority.

However, she was saddened by the fact that there was no electricity whatsoever in the village because of which the weavers had no choice but to work in darkness with only candles as a source of light. Moved by their plight, Kareena has now given them a Rs 3 lakh (approximate) cheque to raise a solar energy plant and within two months the village will have electricity.

A source said, “Kareena had gone to Chanderi village in MP with Aamir Khan for the promotion of 3 Idiots. The weavers gave her the handmade saree and she also had dinner with them. However, she realised that it was extremely difficult for these workers to weave as there was no electricity in their village.

Consequently, she has now given the cheque to the village officials and is also speaking to several Bollywood friends to join her in the cause to bring electricity to all villages in the country. She didn’t want to only talk about it but to also come forward and do something constructive.”

Kareena said, “I was a little shocked to see how these people work. At the end of the day it’s our country and I learnt that there are about 100 villages in the country which have no electricity. I have handed over a cheque to the concerned authorities to build a solar energy plant. It’s a nominal amount but it can bring smiles to many faces, which is why I wanted to do this. I am told that in about two months, the plant will be built and there will be electricity in Chanderi.

I am also going to ask my friends in the film industry to come forward and make a difference,” she said.

Ever since she made her debut with the film Slumdog Millionaire, Freida has been creating waves from the film’s victory at the Oscars, to her being signed on for Woody Allen’s next. She is certainly going places. However, the latest news is that Freida has been signed on for yet another Hollywood film War of The Gods.

While Freida has completed her shooting Woody Allen’s You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger opposite Josh Brolin and Naomi Watts, and Israeli film Miral, which has been directed by Julian Schnabel, she will be working in War of The Gods which is based on Greek mythology and will be directed by Tarsem Singh. It begins production in April.

The story revolves around the warrior Theseus, who leads his men into battle with the Greek gods to defeat evil and the other elder gods in order to save mankind.

Freida who plays a Greek priestess in the film, portrays Phaedra, an oracle priestess who joins Theseus, to prevent the cataclysmic war from erupting.

The film which is scheduled to go on floors this April is being produced by Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang Prods, Mark Canton of Atmosphere Entertainment and Relativity topper Ryan Kavanaugh.

Everyone’s speculating about DON 2. Farhan Akhtar, who directed the SRK starrer DON, had announced the sequel to the film quite some time back. While Farhan got busy with his acting assignments and SRK too decided to work on RAB NE BANA DI JODI first and MY NAME IS KHAN next, one kept wondering when Farhan and SRK would start the next instalment of DON.

“DON 2 will start in October this year. We’ve locked the script and also the locations,” Farhan and his producer-partner Ritesh Sidhwani tell me. The new DON will have two leading ladies. “Priyanka Chopra will be one of them. The second will be finalized in due course,” Farhan states.

There’s talk that the producers are also planning to start ROCK ON 2. “A lot of people want us to do that. Right now Abhishek [Kapoor, the director of ROCK ON] is working on another script. But if he finds a script that looks like a worthy follow up to ROCK ON, why not?” Farhan clarifies.

Well-known fashion designer Rohit Bal suffered a heart attack yesterday. The designer has since been admitted to Medanta Medicity in Gurgaon. Bal, 42, suffered an attack at his Defence Colony residence and he was soon rushed to the hospital.

Apart from designing for many Bollywood celebrities, Bal also has international clients like Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson, Naomi Campbell and Anna Kournikova to name a few.

Besides, he is also the brand ambassador of Omega watches since 2001 and has ventured into the hotel business by launching two restaurants - Veda and Cibo - in the capital.

Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t sleep. Or so it seems. He landed in Mumbai on Thursday from Dubai after a show, but shows no sign of strain or jetlag. Just before Dubai the mega-star was in Berlin for the film festival negotiating the attention of hundreds of screaming fans.

What we don’t know is that Shah Rukh met and bonded in Berlin with American auteur director Martin Scorsese and his favourite actor Leonardo Di Caprio.

Says Shah Rukh, “Leonardo, Martin and I spent some time together. Martin was gracious enough to remember that he had met me in Cannes way back in 2002 when I was there for Devdas. He wants to watch Devdas and I’ve promised to send it to him. I’ll do so right way.”

After the glorious performance in My Name Is Khan as a physically-disabled underdog journeying across America on a whimsical mission, Shah Rukh Khan is all set to play the super-hero flying across the sky to save humanity.

True to its mythological title, Ra.1 which starts shooting next month in Mumbai followed by Goa and London, will have Shah Rukh combating 10 villains. Raavan according to Hindu mythology, was a ten-headed demon whom Ram vanquished single-handedly.

In Ra.1, the modern day Raavan has been turned into ten different villains whom super-hero Shah Rukh, the modern day Ram will annihilate one after another.

Shah Rukh Khan seemed remarkably relaxed in Berlin on the day after his film My Name Is Khan opened in Mumbai accompanied by violent protests by the Shiv Sena.

Said Shah Rukh from Berlin, “I missed the opening in Mumbai. But I believe people have liked the film. I’m being told I’m in character. That’s good to hear. Give me a character to be in, and I’m right there.”

The SRK brand of humour was intact when told that My Name Is Khan doesn’t look like a Karan Johar film. At his deadliest deadpan best SRK retorted, “Yeah, even I felt like that when I first saw it. I told Karan, ‘Arrey yaar yeh tum ne kaisi picture banayee hai?’ Actually the three ladies in our lives Hiroo Aunty (Karan’s mother Hiroo Johar), Kajol and Gauri have made this film.”

Getting serious SRK said, “I thought it would take audiences a little time to come to terms with the film. But I am glad it was well-received.”

After playing the under-dog in two successive films Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and My Name Is Khan (we aren’t counting his guest appearance in Dulha Mil Gaya) Shah Rukh will be flying across the sky in Ra.1. The estimated budget of the film to be produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies, is Rs 100 crores. And no Kareena Kapoor won’t be joining him in midair. She plays Shah Rukh’s grounded wife and not a super-woman.

Says a source close to Ra.1, “Kareena was keen to attempt the hi-jinks with Shah Rukh, especially since Agent Vinod where she has a lot of stunts has again been postponed But in Ra.1 all the conflict involves Shah Rukh and the ten villains.”

Shah Rukh along with the film’s director Anubhav Sinha and journalist-writer Mushtaq Sheikh, has co-written Ra.1 and will be credited as one of the writers.

The film will be in Hindi. Says the source, “He was advised to make the film in English. But Shah Rukh decided to make it in Hindi. Why should he pitch his super-hero film to the Western audience when they already have their Superman and Spiderman? Shah Rukh has no aspirations of cracking Hollywood on their terms.”

The film requires the star to perform never-before heart-in-the-mouth stunts, which he’s gearing up to do.

While Naseeruddin Shah at 60, would be Priyanka Chopra’s oldest husband in Saat Khoon Maaf (earlier entitled Ek Batta Saath), Neil Nitin Mukesh has just been signed to play her youngest husband.

Though age-wise, Neil is a few months older than Priyanka, Neil, it is reliably learnt, initially felt he would look incompatible with her.

Says a source, “Neil didn’t want another situation like Aa Dekhen Zara where everyone commented on how incompatible Bipasha and he looked. At the same time, he’s a big fan of Priyanka’s work. So when he heard that his colleague Ranbir Kapoor was working with Priyanka and prepared himself to match Priyanka’s maturity level (Ranbir has stubbled, lean red-eyed look in Anjaana Anjaani), Neil was game for it.”

Neil’s character will require a heavy physical transformation. He will apparently be unrecognizable on screen.

Says Neil from the location for Yashraj Films’ Lafange Parinday, “When I heard the script, I was zapped. This was something I had to do. I play one of Priyanka’s husbands, the youngest of the lot. The fact that I get to be in the same film as actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Mohanlalji was incentive enough. I read even Irrfan Khan is in the film.” (However sources close to the project deny Irrfan’s casting).

While all the actors playing Priyanka’s husbands (and these include an unknown American actor) have been finalized , the seventh actor is yet to be finalized.

Neil starts shooting for Saat Khoon Maaf from April. “I’ve a somewhat crowded date diary this year. I join Abbas-Mustan from June to December for The Italian Job.”

Neil, who moved to Powai to be near Yashraj Studios to avoid the daily traffic to and from South Mumbai, is wondering if he made the right move.

“The traffic on that side of town is just as bad. It’s excruciating to travel even from Powai to Yashraj Studios. On Thursday, I had a day off and I invited my mom over to do up my new home the way I wanted it.”

Neil, who has been a part of a joint family household all his life, says he has no time to miss his family in Powai. “Because I use that old flat of ours only to sleep….alone!”

No sooner that the controversy around SRK’s comments on Pakistani cricket players has settled down, the actor finds himself in yet another controversy related to the IPL.

This time round, it’s the courtesy of inner wear brand Lux Cozy, of which, SRK is the recently appointed brand ambassador. The story goes that, since SRK is the brand ambassador of the said brand, it was rest understood as to they will be sponsoring the uniforms for Khan’s T-20 team Kolkata Knight Riders, besides a monetary angle of course. All was well so far. Now the twist in the tale is that the Lux Company is owned by the Todi brothers (Ashok and Pradip). They are the same Todi brothers who were charged with apparently leading to the suicide of computer graphics designer Rizwanur Rehman, a Muslim, after he married Ashok Todi’s daughter Priyanka, who was a Hindu by religion.

This news had made it to the national headlines and remained atop for quite sometime. This ’sponsorship’ move by SRK for KKR with the said brand has not been taken kindly by many. That’s the reason why it has sparked anger in many people’s heart. Not just that, since it has a religious pinch to it, a few religious bodies too have come in the forefront to express their opposition. In the lieu of all this, there has been a meeting that has been arranged which will include artistes, actors, dancers, writers, performers and also a few prominent names express solid opposition to the controversial tie-up.

After all the hype and hoopla, Aamir Khan has finally withdrawn his resignation from the HRD ministry in lieu of the recent controversy regarding the altercation between him and renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar. Aamir reconsidered his decision only after the intervention of the HRD Minister Kapil Sibal.

Aamir, in his letter to Sibal, said, “I have given a lot of thought to your request to take back my resignation and be a part of my committee. I have also read the letter of the other members have written to you reiterating their faith in me. The amendment to the Copyright Act (of 1957) is an extremely important process, indeed historic. In light of the above, I take back my resignation.”

Sibal had told Aamir to reconsider his decision after he quit from the panel earlier this week.

Deepika says, “I have not spoken about it before but I was a state level baseball player too. Before you get surprised, let me tell you that baseball is played in India and we have some very good players. Unfortunately, you don’t know about them because of a lack of awareness. I have also played badminton at the national level and basketball at the state level. I was a champion at the state level at a few tournaments in these disciplines. Representing my state is a big thing for me. So, it is but natural that I would want to do something for the games that have given me so much,” says Deepika.

Speaking about her sister Anisha, Deepika says she has chosen not to step into Bollywood at all.

“My sister doesn’t want to come into Bollywood at all. She is training to become a professional golf player. She is already an amateur and she will be turning pro soon. She is happy staying away from Bollywood,” she ends.

Imran Khan proved himself a man of the masses when recently he shot a cola ad with Kalki Koechlin shot by Dibakar (Love Sex & Dhokha) Banerjee.

The ad, a slice-of-life love story about two strangers’ chance encounter on a crowded streets of Mumbai shot over 2 days last month, had hordes of fan descending on location. Imran dealt with the situation like a pro, mingling, signing autographs, posing for photographs.

The BEST bus hired for the shoot became his home for two days.

Says Banerjee who’s making his next feature film with Imran, “Seeing the discipline and drive Imran invested into the ad, I’m more than convinced I’m ready to work with mainstream actors.”

Banerjee who has so far done three feature films with actors like Abhay Deol, Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher, is looking to cast Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif.

Apparently, Imran was lost to the rest of the world for those two days when the ad was shot. Says Dibakar, “We shot the ad on a relatively lonely stretch of road in Malad. But the news that Imran was shooting spread and fans would swoop down every hour. Considering the tight schedule Imran would either quickly hide in his vanity van until the fans left or meet them in a very friendly manner.”

The BEST bus had character actors as Imran’s co-passengers and Imran was soon friendly with all of them.

Says the director, “All I can say is, Imran won more than a busload of fans in those two days. At the moment, I’m busy putting finishing touches to my release Love Sex Aur Dhokha. But right after that I’ll get to work on the Imran project.”

Actor Nirmal Pandey passed away today afternoon.

Nirmal, a graduate from the National School of Drama, is known for his performances in films like Bandit Queen, Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahin, Godmother and Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya amongst many others. His next release is Lahore which comes out next month.

Pandey, reportedly, suffered a major heart attack which caused his unfortunate demise.

We offer our humblest condolences to the actor’s family and friends.

Star-Fox, the American co-producers of Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan are mighty pleased with the outcome of their first international collaboration.

Interestingly, the music in MNIK is not being seen as a hindrance for the international market.

Says Vijay Singh, CEO Star-Fox, “The songs are not lip-sync and they do not hamper the flow of the narrative. The myth that the songs must be lip-sync has been broken. The idea is to push the boundaries and see how far we can take Bollywood. MNIK has raised the bar for Indian cinema. Abroad, my colleagues in LA are surprised by the kind of numbers we’re getting in the US. Khan has performed 2 1/2 times better overseas than any other Indian film. It’s a great moment for Bollywood. Nobody knew what the upper limit for profits was for Bollywood internationally. People leave the theatre with a message in their heart. We all went through some difficult times initially. But that’s all behind us now.”

Singh says the Star-Fox headquarter in LA were watching the progression of MNIK very carefully. “We always believed in the film. Right from Day 1, they were looking at Khan not as a film on issues but an epic love story. That’s what attracted us to the project in the first place. We’ve put the film in different countries keeping in mind the different audiences. In the UK we’ve given it the highest number of prints possible. We worked very closely with Karan Johar and then marketed the film according the cultural requirements of the specific countries. Our colleagues all over the world were taken into confidence. We don’t see the international market as a spill over of the Indian market. We spent money in every market to set up the film keeping in mind the specifics.”

Says Vijay, “Audiences for Indian cinema are changing all over the world. MNIK had the biggest and the best talent in Hindi cinema.”

And now Star-Fox will produce another Hindi film. “This time more of an entertainer on a far less lavish budget but with an underlying message,” promises Vijay Singh.

While animation movies are hugely popular Overseas, they have, with the exception of one or two movies, never really found their niche in the Indian market. But Hollywood giant Warner Bros. and veteran Jyotin Goel hope to bring animation movies in the spotlight with BIRD IDOL, their first collaboration.

Coming from a background of working with big-name stars such as Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla, some might believe that Jyotin took a risk by entering an unproven medium in India. But Jyotin is quick to refute such claims. He believes that there is a huge, untapped market for animation movies in India, as seen by the success of foreign animation films that release here. BIRD IDOL, he promises, will prove to be a game-changer and will open up a new market for Indian films.

Says Jyotin, “BIRD IDOL is a laugh-out-loud riot, combining international quality animation with pure, unadulterated comedy. It creates a fantasy world where the birds of Mumbai are as human as the people who inhabit it. They go to school, watch TV, go out on dates and yes, even watch reality shows, especially the musical show known for making stars overnight - ‘Bird Idol’.”

A collaboration between Warner Bros. and Goel Screencraft, BIRD IDOL reinforces a trend that has taken place in recent years, that of Hollywood and Bollywood coming together. However, this particular collaboration is even more significant as it marks the coming together of one of the oldest banners in Hollywood with one of the oldest banners in Bollywood. The Goel banner was established in 1948 and has innumerable hits to its credit, with movies such as DUS LAKH, EK PHOOL DO MALI and INAAM DUS HAZAAR that are still appreciated today.

Another feature of interest is that, after Devendra Goel and Jyotin Goel, BIRD IDOL also introduces a third generation of the Goel family to the industry. Dev Goel, son of Jyotin Goel, assisted and co-wrote the film with his father. The animation is by Interactive Entertainment P. Ltd., while Sangeet and Siddharth Haldipur provide music.

Aamir Khan is in news again, this time round, not for his reel-life, but for his real life. The news that has taken the whole of the media world is that of a heated altercation between him and the veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar.

According to confirmed sources, the story goes, “In the said meeting, one of the things that came up was a partnership between the creative people and the producers. And one of the key issues that were discussed was the royalty on songs. At one point of time, Aamir pointed out that in the marketing of a song in Bollywood, there’s a lot of contribution from other people, like the actor and others. So, how do we divide the royalties between the lyricists, the music composers and all the other people who also contribute towards the making of the song. And the point that Javed Akhtar was trying to make was that the other people may or may not be the contributors to the song, but the lyricists and the music composers’ contribution is primary to the song. And in the due course, they both brought up examples from their own films. The overall discussion was heated.”

Apparently, if the reports are to be believed, then, it was Aamir’s remarks which angered Javed Akhtar who said that the song ‘Papa Kehte Hain‘ became a hit despite the fact that Aamir was not a star at that time. The panel also includes Javed Akhtar, Boney Kapoor, Mukesh Bhatt, Vishal Bhardwaj, Vishal Dadlani, Prasoon Joshi, Anjum Rajabli, Madhu Manthena and Bhushan Kumar.

As a result of all this, Aamir has resigned from the 10-member committee formed by the government to look into the proposed amendments to the Copyright Act. In his letter to the HRD minister Kapil Sibal, Aamir reasoned out the following:

‘I would like to bring to your notice a number of articles which appeared in the media in the past few days. Sir, it seems to me that there is an attempt by certain people to attack me in public by printing lies about me, thereby turning the attention away from a genuine debate about copyright issues. I am grateful to you for inviting me to be part of a committee to discuss the various issues regarding amendments to the Copyright Act. However in light of these public attacks on me I don’t think I am comfortable to be part of this committee. Sir, I take great pride in my honesty and integrity, and attach an enormous amount of value to my sense of justice and fair play. Monetary achievements have never excited me. If they had, I would have acted in many more than one film a year, thereby being financially much richer than I currently am. Had I been driven by monetary achievements I would not have produced films that challenge the mainstream and break new ground, films like Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par and PeepliLIVE, that most producers would hesitate to produce.

I believe that what I have earned is the love and respect of my colleagues and my audience. And this I have done through my work and through the manner in which I work. This is why such public attacks are most damaging to me emotionally and leave me crippled. In the past 26 years of my involvement with the film industry I may have made mistakes, but never have I knowingly been dishonest or unfair in my dealings, whether as an assistant director, actor, producer or director.

Therefore I request you to accept my resignation from this committee and please appoint another person in my place.

I believe that amendments to the Copyright Act are long overdue and I am so happy that a person like you is spearheading this movement. I believe that the changes that you are bringing about in the sphere of education are so dynamic, progressive and positive, that I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that you will do the same in the field of copyright.’

Official statement from HRD minister on this matter is awaited.

Martin Scorsese has shown keen interest in revising and restoring Mamata Shankar’s legendary father Uday Shankar’s film Kalpana.

Sheepishly Mamata confesses she has been not as swift and professional in her dealings with Martin Scorsese as she should have.

“He has indeed been very interested. But I’ve not been able to keep up the communication with Martin as much as I’d like to. I’m so busy with many different things. Apart from looking after my family and work I also have a mother (former danseuse Amala Shankar) who is over 90. All this is no excuse for putting behind a project as important as a restoration of my father’s film.”

Mamata now intends to interact seriously with Martin Scorsese and get the restoration work off the ground. “I feel it’s a great responsibility that has been put forward for me. I can’t thank Martin Scorsese enough for taking such keen interest in Kalpana.”

The legendary choreographer -dancer Uday Shankar’s daughter Mamata Shankar who is a reputed actress in her own right has just completed another Bengali film Abohoman where her role is apparently based on Mrs Satyajit Ray’s life.

The soft-spoken Mamata who wears the hat of a dancer (she runs Udayan The Mamata Shankar Dance Company), actress and housewife protests against any resemblance of her character to real life.

“There are so many wives of directors who support and help their husband with the making of their films the way I’m supposed to have done in Abohoman and there are directors who have had relationships with their actresses. I don’t think Abohoman is based on any one life or experience,” protests Mamata who has played the lead in 3 of Satyajit Ray’s films Ganshatru, Shakha Proshakha and Agantuk and several notable works of Mrinal Sen.

In fact Mamata’s first feature film Mrinal Sen’s Mrigaya in 1976 was also her last Hindi film. “After Mrigaya I never got an offer in Hindi worth considering. Rather than do inconsequential roles I chose to stay away from Hindi cinema. My output in Bengali cinema too is sparse. I’m grateful to Rituparno Ghosh for giving me a role like Abohoman. It gave me a chance to play a woman quite unlike any I’ve played so far. In most of my films I play women who are organized formal and proper. In Abohoman, I’m quite scattered the way I’m in real life.”

Now Prateik and not Abhishek Bachchan will play the lead in Goldie’s film.

Shooting in the Mumbai streets in movies about life in the metropolis has become a way of life for Prateik Babbar. Last month he shot for Raghav Dar’s My Friend Pinto on the Mumbai streets. Now during the whole of July Prateik will be on the streets of Mumbai shooting in the pelting rain for a thriller set in the monsoon.

Remember Smita Patil’s celebrated song in the rain ‘Aaj Rapat Jayen’ with Amitabh Bachchan in Namak Halal? Apparently, Smita was so unhappy doing a rain song that she cried after she came home.

One hopes Prateik likes the rain more. Goldie will shoot the entire film tentatively entitled Copycat in the rains.

Says the director, “It’s gritty realistic romantic thriller set on the streets of Mumbai during the rains. We’ll be shooting from July through the monsoon.”

Goldie didn’t want artificial studio rains for the film. But he did want Prateik for the lead. Says Goldie, “There’s something special about that boy, besides the fact that he looks so much like his mother. He suits the role perfectly.”

A new girl will star opposite Prateik. A short-list of hopefuls has been drawn up and Goldie would take his best-friend and almost-brother Abhishek’s help to choose the finalist for the female lead.

Disney star Selena Gomez said she was ’star-struck’ when Shakira made a guest appearance on Wizards of Waverly Place.

The 17-year-old, best known for her role as Alex Russo in the hit series, revealed she got to sing with Shakira during her appearance.

She told MTV News: “The Shakira episode was so much fun. I’m not sure I can reveal too much. I just know that she had a very big part in it and I was just star-struck the entire time.

“I also felt like I needed to work out after I was next to her because she’s gorgeous. She was really nice and she was really funny.

“So the role was her playing herself, obviously, and I got to sing a song with her as well.”

Gomez said she didn’t get round to dancing with the Colombian singer, adding: “No! I wasn’t even about to attempt her dance moves. There’s no way I would be that skilled.”

After directing two super hit films in the Golmaal series, Rohit Shetty’s third installment in the franchise Golmaal 3 is being awaited eagerly. In fact, during the past few days, there has been a lot of speculation about various names being part of the cast of this much awaited film. Hence, we decided it was best to verify with the man himself on who actually forms the principal cast.

When we got in touch with Rohit Shetty asking him about the final cast of Golmaal 3, the talented director replied in his trademark humorous style, “There is so much speculation going around about the cast, it seems like I am making a Mughal-e-Azam”. Speaking about the cast, Rohit said, “Let me clear all misconceptions once and for all. Golmaal 3 stars Ajay Devgan, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi, Kunal Khemu, Kareena Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah in principal roles. Besides some of my favorite actors like Johnny Lever, Murli Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar and Sanjay Mishra also form the supporting cast.”

Speaking on some of the new members of the Golmaal family, Rohit says, “Yes we have Kunal Khemu, Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah as new members of the cast. They are all new characters in the plot. Contrary to rumors, Mithun is not playing the character played by Paresh Rawal in the first part. It’s a completely new character. Mithun and Ratna Pathak Shah’s characters also end up getting married during the course of the film”

We also asked him about the buzz doing the rounds that Arshad was not a part of the film. “No…Arshad is very much a part of Golmaal 3. In fact, we just finalized things with him today morning.”

Rohit begins filming Golmaal 3 with a 10 day schedule in Mumbai starting March 20 followed by a 50 day schedule at his favorite location Goa. Like his previous two films- All The Best and Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3 too will have a grand Diwali release on Nov 5 this year.

Besides Golmaal 3, Rohit is all set to direct his close buddy Ajay Devgan in an out and out action film. The film is apparently a remake of the 2009 Malayalam film Puthiya Mukham and is a solo hero film. In fact, the rights of the Malayalam film have already been acquired and in all probability Ajay Devgan himself along with Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. will be producing this film. When we asked Rohit about this project, he did confirm the same but refused to reveal much at this stage.

And when they saw Diana in Bigg Boss, they felt that she was the one who does full justice to their requirements and that’s why they decided to zero down on her.
