It is not only the beauty from Venus, Jacqueline Fernandez who goes WOW looking at him but off-screen also this charming, 27-year-old rules the hearts of millions of girls across the world. However, in ‘Pepsi The Game – Level 3’, the Youngistaani hero faces the wrath of three female Japanese warriors with daggers hidden in their fans. Since the time, Guzaarish went on the floors; there have been many speculations and rumors about its storyline. People only knew that in this movie Hrithik is bed ridden and moves on a wheel chair, and Aishwarya is her nurse who falls in love with him. That was enough fodder for the rumor mills and it went haywire, and since July 2009, when the shooting started, it has been compared with Who’s life is it anyway?, Mar adentro, and The Painted Veil. Only because the above mentioned movies feature a bed ridden hero. But the movie which has come closest is My Left Foot.
There are few things in the film industry, with which on shouldn’t mess around. My Left Foot is a live example of that. The directorial debut of Jim Sheridan, the movie saw once in a life time performance by the very brilliant Daniel Day-Lewis, which made everyone look up at him. He played the role of Christy Brown, a patient of cerebral palsy, whose only controllable part was his left foot. This performance was par Oscar, though Academy honored itself by awarding the Best Actor award to Daniel Day-Lewis.
Now, our own Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is known for exaggeration, is going to copy this movie. I don’t know, whether he is playing with fire, or doing a favor to Indian audience who don’t even know about My Left Foot. Though there were instances when he managed to copy with élan.
We all know about Black and The Miracle Worker, so I am not going into that. Then there is Khamoshi, which many accused, as a copy of the German movie Beyond Silence, but the problem was, both the movies released in the same year! Wikipedia says that Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was based on the Bengali novel Na Hanyate, by Maitreyi Devi’, but there is no credit.
Being a diehard Hrithik fan, I personally don’t like to see him in unofficial remakes. He is like volcano, with a lot of potential buried inside him. Having said that, if he is working in a remake of My Left Foot under the guidance of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, then we can look forward to it. We all know that Hrithik will give his 100%, and this movie will be remembered for the many years to come.
